I have just bought DAOC, and to my surprise in only runs in 16 bit colors. My desktop setting is 1024x768x32. I have a Radeon 64 mb DDR, and have installed the newest official drivers and Direct X 8.1. I can see on my monitors "viewmeter" that is doesnt change mode.

I know that I can run other games in 32 bit, but they have a special setting for that. Does anyone know is there is a hidden 32 bit color "feature" in DAOC or why it swithes to 16 bit when system runs in 32 bit?

Thanks in advance :)

best looking 16bit colour I seen.. looks good thouhg my my brothers geforce3ti200.. I will have to compare to radeon8500(both computers in office)

Answer from DaoC support.

Answer from DaoC support.

I got an answer from DAOC support:

"DAoC does run in 16-bit color and there is not an option to run in 32-bit color.

yeah..at least we're all still alive :/

I can put in some screenshots of DAoC running at 16bit (on a $300 gfx card and XP1900)...this is the best joke i've ever heard !

There are some scenes, eg. when you stand in front of a door etc....where it just looks plain UGLY....and they want money for that (got $40 already for the game)..and an additional $13 a month for 16bit gfx....good one :)

Besides of the fact that its utter nonsense that 16bit is 'faster' than 32bit rendering...we are not in 1997 anymore btw !!!!
Actually it may even slow down modern systems because they have to down-render textures etc....my ancient tombraider I and II already run in 32bit years ago - as does any OTHER directX based game to !
