x360 Reference / PS3 RGB Full Range possible on PC?

Hello.

I have a 32" Sony Bravia HDTV (KDL-32BX400).
While it's deep black levels are fantastic, they also drown everything out, making any video i watch, or game i play way too dark to see most of the scene.

On the x360 i solve that problem by setting the Reference level to the lowest one, and on ps3 i choose the RGB Full Range to be limited. This kills the super deep all-swallowing blacks in favor of something a bit closer to grey, but i can see the entire scene in movies and games.

I wanted to ask if there is some way to do just that on a PC (Windows 7, GTX 470). I can use either the mini HDMI port, the DVI one or DVI converted to RGB. I'll do just about anything at this point, because things are pretty much unwatchable now.

Thank you.

I think you are attacking this problem the wrong way. Clearly the problem here is you TV's calibration. Fix the TV's settings and then you won't have to mess around with everything else.

you were correct :)

i didnt know too much about proper calibration before, had cotrast an max, etc. I spent quite a while reading yesterday, and finally calibrated the TV. it looks great now on both consoles and PC.

The calibration i did was FAR from perfect, i guess ill stll tweak and adjust, but the improvement so far is insane.

Thank you.

Good stuff. Most TVs and monitors look like crap when using the default settings or any of the presets. My friend recently bought a new LG LED TV and it looks like crap compared to my 3 years old LG because he did not bother to calibrate it.

The problem is TV manufacturers have a default set as if every TV shipped is going to be put on a showroom floor with everything cranked.

Get it home and the eyes start to bleed.

The only TV that had a decent out of the box minimal tweaking required was my old Samsung 46 inch DLP.
